O.K

The original visual material for O.K. was filmed on Super-8 film, re-projected onto the artist´s hand and then re-filmed on a 16mm format. Rather than impose a rigid structural framework to refer the viewer back to the material process of the film itself, Blackout constructed a situation that refracts the reflection of her imagery back to the viewer in an ever-increasing series of image generations. That the "final" images rest, and are contained, upon the artist´s hand is a significant technique in the mechanical/chemical film process which is frequently overlooked. Also, the photographic imagery itself is constructed largely through the artist´s intervention, in concert with the limitations of the process. The re-presented images are indistinct upon her hand. Through this simple and effective method, inferring the tactility of the filmic image, Blackout proposes a situation of repeated construction of memory itself - the illusionary substance of film imagery that at times becomes indistinct, with the "surface" upon which it rests in reference to the screen, becoming the focal point of the observer´s perceptual act.
O.K. can be described as a poignant illumination of the constructions of memory and reflection that are ultimately part of our existence - complete with the frequent absences sometimes missing in our attempts to reconcile one with the other (past with present), all framed for consideration in a way which makes the medium of film unique.

The morning after. The landscape, the environment, leftovers from breakfast, the man. Bruckner´s pathos - all of that upon a rough surface. A woman´s voice says: "ohh - ob - O.B. - ob er..? - Ober - Oberflächen! - Oberfächen-Kontakt... ("Ohh - if - O.B. - if he..? supreme - surfaces! - superficial contact.."), after having previously spelled out the letters, O.B.E.R.F.L.Ä.C.H.E.N. The original material consisted of a S-8 film. It was projected onto the palm of my hand and refilmed with a 16mm camera. The hand is being closed at the end of the film - it opens again at the words "Oberflächen-Kontakt" (superficial contact); frames of film fall out.
The surfaces have touched one another but the contact has been superficial. Film on the palm, the touch of an image. To place something in your hand, to feel it, to handle it. The result is part of the whole - single images, splinters of film and thought. O.k., that is the way it is.
