No Danube - Kurt Kren and His Films

Kurt Kren, born in Vienna in 1929, has created a work of utmost density in his more than 40 avant-garde films produced since 1957. His international reputation is undisputed and he can be regarded as one of the most influential forces of stimulus for the European experimental filmmakers. Today [1988] Kren is little known in Austria. This is due to the fact, that he first moved to West Germany in 1971 and later on to the U.S.A. In 1983 his residence became Houston, Texas. The documentary comprises images of his life in Houston, both private and occupational. He is talking about his past, his present situation, about abstract topics and, of course, about his films, excerpts of which appear throughout the film. (H.S., 1988)
