First the faces of Jesus Christ, painted by Piero della Francesca, of Nikolaus Lenau, the romantic Austrian poet who spent his last years in an insane asylum, and of myself are shown. Then you hear a sentence from della Francesca about the portrait of Jesus Christ: ‘Form and content are like brother and sister in the venerable hall of space’, and about Lenau's portrait his sentence: 'Poetry is myself. My most selfish self is poetry'. And I myself say: ‘My message throws everyone back on themselves’. The dead faces are brought back to life, as it were, and made to speak by blending them with my face and making faces. This creates astonishing similarities and effects. Just as the faces are blended, so are the messages, which have been expanded to include the phrase of Jesus Christ ‘Love your neighbor as yourself’. The theorem of identity is called into question as the messages relativize each other. (Peter Weibel)
