Switcher Sex

The video switcher is a device that allows the simultaneous superimposition of images from two camera feeds. The switcher made it possible to transform the literary technique of metaphor – the drawing of analogies between different though comparable matters – into a visual technique. It was thereby possible for me to produce novel bodily configurations and visions of the body. Different body parts are overlapped, to work out analogies of the bodily landscape, an anagrammatic of the body: Ear instead of nose, vulva instead of mouth. The organs of the body were conceived as letters and through the aid of a switcher, an artificial writing of the body could be visualized, an écriture corporelle, demonstrating phantasms of desire, from substitution to multiplication of body parts.
