Mo´s Birthday (Mozart Minute 25)

On the one hand the trailer approaches expectations awakened by Mozart’s place as a (musical) icon of Austrian culture and on the other with the use Mozart made of the orient (e.g. in “The Abduction from the Seraglio”) in his work. Although informed by the ideas of enlightenment, he nevertheless handles the cultural space it allegedly deals with as a screen for Western imaginings at a time when the threat of actual cultural and military invasion had been dispelled. The images which appear fleetingly out of the darkness are echoed by the transient appearance of a Mozart piece written in the last year of his life for a blind musician.
