On the edge
Victor N. Cohen, the head of what was the most modern advertising agency in Zurich, hired me to shoot a film for his son RöbiŽs 20th birthday. In the course of the following two years, this film expanded into a story about young people in Europe.
It all began after midnight at a cave party at Schönau Castle. Morning brought a mixture of ViennaŽs slaughterhouse and the beginning of a day at the office in Zurich; that morning, people throughout Europe were at work, studying, exercising, fixing things and taking strolls. The soundtrack serves as the filmŽs driving force, symbolizing the growing Americanization of Europe at that time.
A montage strings together the most extreme contrasts as if by chance, which gradually made the boss of the advertising agency nervous and gave this film its title: On the Edge. (Ferry Radax)
