To Be or Not to Be

Humor and satire are the unifying aspects of this program, which combines films by established artists with surprising works by young talents.

Friedl vom Gröller lets a very large joint go through a round of people from three generations, while the two video artists behind BitteBitteJaJa plunder their collection of net footage to create a fast-paced compilation of historical half/un/truths. This is followed by three films that take aim at gender stereotypes. As a male rock singer, Plastillinpenis impresses with his girlies, the vaginas (Kurdwin Ayub). Carola Dertnig presents the preconception of women as incompetent car users in a way that is worthy of scrap metal. Queer superstars who don't really want to be glamorous take empty dreams of the fashion world ad absurdum (Martin & The Evil Eyes of Nur). Harald Hund and Paul Horn observe four mice for two months in a model house made of edible material until all that remains is a ruin. Finally, the young star K. Ayub performs a song of longing, hysterically pining in a poor ambience. (Brigitta Burger-Utzer)
